PDA has obtained planning permission for the change of use of the former Wrecclesham Club and Institute, 9 School Hill, Farnham, GU10 4PU (Class A4) and erection of extension and alterations to provide 9 flats following demolition of existing extensions.
The last of the pre-commencement conditions has now been discharged allowing the development to proceed. The site adjoins a cemetery (to the south) and is opposite, to the other side of the highway, a Grade II Listed Building (St Peter’s Church). The site is also located within the Wrecclesham Conservation Area.
The key issues were therefore balancing the heritage interests against the need for additional housing in the area and at the same time safeguarding the amenity of neighbouring residential properties and mature trees located along the southern boundary of the site. In addition the loss of the social club was also a material consideration although mitigated to a large extent by marketing information confirming that there was no interest in retaining a community use at the site duly largely to the general disrepair of the building and site.
